Dear Senator Nelson and Executive Director David M. Marquis,
I am in receipt of a letter from Grow Financial Credit Union dated September 20th 2001 in response to the letter from Senator Bill Nelson that was sent to the NCUA. In this letter from Grow are a repeat of lies that they are using to cover up the fact that they had not informed me of the fee of $885.00 that they hid from me. I am disputing that they “made three attempts to discuss the matter” and that I “rebuffed those attempts at resolving the matter”, and that the fee was “clearly disclosed in the Credit Unions fee schedule” to me. This is completely ludicrous. I have already gone into detail over why this is so preposterous and won’t repeat myself here. It is more then clear that this charge was hidden from me and as I’ve already stated in my previous correspondence, I have tangible proof. (I now have documents by two of Grow’s employees.) Why is it that Grow has never inquired as to what my “proof” is? Why is it that the regulating agency of credit unions has never once asked me what my “proof” is? Why would the NCUA simply take the credit union’s word for it that they informed me there was a fee involved with this transaction, and simply ignore my correspondence (and proof) stating otherwise?
What I want to know is this- please let me know: What is the NCUA agency for exactly and what powers do they ultimately have when it comes to regulating credit unions? From what I am coming to conclude is that the NCUA is really nothing more then a glorified BBB and simply files complaints lodged by consumers against various credit unions. Is this a reasonable understanding? If I am mistaken, I would really like to know what authority the NCUA has when it comes to regulating credit unions and what assistance they can offer to protect consumers? Can somebody please get back to me and let me know why the agency that was created to protect consumers is not doing what it is they are supposed to be doing.
Respectfully,
Robert Johnson
